Wesleyan Summer Gifted Program Begins in June

Buckhannon-Gifted children from across the state and country will get a taste of what “real college life” is like this
summer. For two weeks, the students, ranging in age from 11 to 18 years old, will be participating in the Wesleyan
Summer Gifted Program on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
The 26-year-old program offers an abbreviated college experience which includes accelerated classes in
astronomy, physics, robotics, higher math, and the social sciences. These classes are all taught by college
professors. Students attending the College Prep session may even earn college credit for participation in the
program.

The students live in dorms, are closely supervised, and use the college’s facilities like real college students.
The camp also emphasizes fun and recreation: dances, movies, field trips, athletic pursuits and a Talent Show
round out their activities.

This summer, fifth through eighth graders will attend camp from June 22 – July 5. Eighth through eleventh graders
will attend from July 13 – July 26. Applications will be accepted until June 10th.
To be eligible for the program, students must be identified as gifted or have scored in the 97th percentile on the
mathematics or verbal section of a standardized achievement exam.
For further information, contact the Summer Gifted Office at 304/473-8072 or e-mail
sgp@wvwc.edu. Applications
can be easily downloaded from our website at:
